Tips to Keep Your New Year Resolutions

It's estimated that 80% of people abandon their resolutions by the end of January. That doesn't have to be you! Today I am sharing some tips to help you stay on track with your health and fitness goals. 1) Make non-disruptive changes to existing habits Too often, we structure our resolutions in ways that require major changes to be established. For instance, getting up an hour earlier to work out but if you've been waking up at 7 a.m. every day for the past 20 years, just the act of awakening an hour earlier is going to be a struggle. Instead maybe commit to taking the stairs instead of the elevator or putting less sugar in your coffee 2) Indulge wisely No one is suggesting eating whatever you want every day, all day. But, caving to a craving-as long as it's in moderation-can curb the desire to go at it like a ravenous wildebeest.
3) Exercise every day Making exercise a daily habit won't even feel like a chore any longer, but rather a built-in part of your day. No days off. 4) Track your food and exercise There are great apps out on the market that can help. Wearable fitness trackers are the best way to get motivated 5) Give yourself a medal. Don't wait to call yourself a winner until you've pounded through the last mile of your big dream marathon or lost every unwanted ounce. Health changes are often incremental. Encourage yourself to keep at it by pausing to acknowledge success as you tick off small and big steps en route to a goal. Blast your favorite tune each time you reach 5,000 steps 6) Build a support network Tell your doctor, friends, family, and loved ones about your goals and ask them to help keep you on track. If you are trying to avoid alcohol or tobacco, make plans with friends that support your goals like going for a walk instead meeting for happy hour. 7) Cut yourself some slack One doughnut or piece of cake won't completely derail your path to eating healthy. Instead of deciding that you failed, focus on how you'll do better tomorrow.
