Canucks' 20th Annual Dice & Ice Charity Gala

This year Cameron and I were lucky enough to attend the 20th Annual Dice & Ice Charity Gala for the Canucks for Kids Foundation. We signed in upon arriving at the JW Marriot Hotel and were given "Canuck money" to gamble at the different casino games. Among other games, they had black jack, baccarat, craps, and roulette -- all ran by Canuck hockey players. Most players did not know the rules of the games and were very nice, everyone was just there for a good time. The event had a strict rule where guests could not ask players for photos or autographs, however they did have a $30/photo photobooth for an hour with the players. Over the speaker system an announcement rang to tell us to start finding our seats. Our table was pretty close to being front and center which was nice so we could see it all. A lovely girl named Adriana sat beside me and we started talking. It was hard to talk to the entire table because it was hard to hear over the music and the rumble of people's voices, making Adriana and Cameron the main people I talked to throughout the night. Brent Butt, from Corner Gas, was the MC. Most people didn't recognize him but I was really excited about that fact.He did a great job. The Auctioneer was the same as the Langley Mayor's Charity Gala .
Shortly into the dinner, after all the players were introduced, Tyler Motte sat at our table. It clicked that Adriana must be his girlfriend and suddenly the whole table was interested in talking to them. Both of them were very nice and I really enjoyed having her at my table.
For dinner we started with dungeness crab and heirloom carrots. It was basically two pieces of lettuce with a little shredded crab ball beside it. The main course was smoked AAA beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes. Unlike Cameron, I was not much of a fan of the meal. The desert however was very well done. We had a sour cherry and milk chocolate mousse which was just melting in our mouths. The dessert was very good. While eating 3 speeches took place. One from a grandmother and young man who were helped by the Canucks for Kids Foundation, an older sister (of a girl who stayed in a hospice) and swam the English Channel to raise money for Canucks for Kids, and lastly, the mother of a young daughter who was helped by the Canucks for Kids Foundation.
To entertain us there were activities such as a silent and live auction, Canuck players doing improv, and a free open bar the entire meal. However, we didn't discover that the bar stayed open until the end of the night. It was a very good night. The Canucks for Kids Foundation raised $743,000 that night. We had such a great time throughout the entire event that Cameron and I sang in the car the whole way home.
